Kevin and Mary Ellen Kilday have been licensed foster parents in Brevard County for the past 13 years. They became interested in foster care after taking 5 children into their home as part of a family arrangement. They felt that pursuing foster care was a way to ensure children’s medical needs and service needs were being met.
They have found foster care to be a very rewarding experience for their family and share that “Each child is special. We love the children in our home and enjoy everyday life with them.” Many would find foster care as a challenge but the Kilday’s are able to focus on the strengths is every child and state they don’t view it as a challenge.
They have many fond experiences of all the children they have served. One of their fondest memories is of a five year old that loved Halloween and was so excited to pick out a pumpkin to carve. The child insisted on picking out the largest pumpkin he could find at the pumpkin patch and carrying it himself. He quickly realized that he could not carry it himself but had a great time carving it with the family.
The Kilday’s would encourage others to become foster parents and share “Become one, you will receive a lot of love from the children. They will definitely enrich your lives.”
