Mentoring Opportunities
Empowering Foster Youth Through Connection
About the program
Our mentoring initiative is a voluntary service that matches supportive adult mentors with youth in foster care between the ages of 13 and 23. These young people live in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Brevard counties.
Why mentor?
Youth in foster care have greater negative outcomes as they transition to adulthood. Without a consistent support system, they are at higher risk for
- Substance abuse and criminal activity
- Early pregnancy and runaway episodes
- Truancy, poor academic performance, dropping out of school
- Homelessness.
What Does a Mentor Do?
You don’t need to be a superhero- you just need to be present. As a mentor, you might:
- Support Academic Growth: Help with homework or school goals.
- Teach Life Skills: Build a budget or study for a driving exam together.
- Prepare for the Future: Assist with college or job applications.
- Be a Listener: Provide much-needed encouragement and emotional support
