Organization seeks gently-used costumes for children in care
MELBOURNE, FL – November 3, 2014 – As foster families prepared for activities and festivities surrounding Halloween, many wanted to ensure that the children staying in their homes had the same fun as their own, dressing up as their favorite superheroes, movie characters or scary monsters to go Trick or Treating. The same was true for families who may not have had the means to buy their children a costume. The need has led a local child and family-serving agency to begin a community outreach initiative: Costumes for Kids!
Brevard C.A.R.E.S. the child abuse prevention and family preservation subsidiary of Brevard Family Partnership, is seeking gently-used Halloween costumes for children ages toddler to teen. Those collected will be made available for free to foster families and families in Brevard C.A.R.E.S. wraparound program prior to Halloween 2015.
“While we provide funds for foster families to purchase clothing and other necessary items for children in their care, and try to help other families in our program with the same, there often isn’t enough to cover some of the more unique things that help make childhood special,” said Brevard C.A.R.E.S. executive director Kimah Burrell. “Costumes for Kids will provide outfits to children of all ages so that they can enjoy the holiday’s experience just like others!”
Families wishing to donate new or gently-used Halloween costumes can drop them off at Brevard C.A.R.E.S. office at 4085 S.
