“Why More Families Should Consider Fostering”
As the President and CEO of Family Partnerships of Central Florida, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary impact that loving families can have on children in need. Every day, we work with youth who have experienced trauma, instability, and loss—and every day, we see how a safe, nurturing home can begin to heal those wounds.
Foster care isn’t just a system—it’s a calling. And right now, our community needs more families to answer that call.
Children Deserve More Than Shelter—They Deserve Belonging
When children enter foster care, they’re often scared, confused, and unsure of what comes next. A foster family can offer more than just a roof over their heads—they can offer comfort, consistency, and connection. These are the building blocks of resilience. And for many children, they’re the first steps toward hope.
Fostering Is Flexible—and You’re Not Alone
You don’t have to be perfect to foster. You don’t have to be wealthy, married, or have parenting experience. What you do need is a heart for children and a willingness to learn. Whether you’re interested in respite, emergency placements, foster care or adoption services, there’s a path that fits your life. Family Partnerships is here to walk this journey with you—providing training, support, and resources necessary for impactful outcomes for our children.
The Need in Central Florida Is Real
Right now, there are more children entering foster care than there are families to receive them. That means kids are being placed far from their schools, siblings, and support systems. It means longer stays in shelters and group homes. It means missed opportunities for healing. We can—and must—do better.
Fostering Builds Stronger Families and Stronger Communities
When families foster, they don’t just change a child’s life—they strengthen the fabric of our entire community. Fostering is a generational investment in the future of Central Florida. Children who grow up in stable homes are more likely to succeed in school, avoid involvement with the justice system, and build healthy relationships. Family Partnerships’ commitment is to provide the highest levels of caring and compassionate family reunification services to families and children in need.
If you’ve ever considered fostering, I encourage you to take the next step. Attend an information session. Family Partnerships has several planned for the fall months. You can also talk to a foster parent – they can provide tremendous insight into the process and what to expect. Here are also foster-care resources. You can also reach out to our team at foster@familypartnerships.org. or through our website on this page.
Every child deserves a champion. And maybe, just maybe, that champion is you.
Warmly,
Phil Scarpelli
